Today, 24 June 2014, marks the 700th  anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn. Just as Hastings in 1066 is etched into the brains of all Englishmen, so Bannockburn is etched into the hearts of all Scotsmen. This was the Battle at which Robert the Bruce led the Scots to victory against King Edward II of England – “proud Edward’s army, and sent him homeward tae think again” – completing the campaign started by William Wallace – he of “Braveheart” fame.
